Tier 5 Visas

What is it?

Tier 5 is for the temporary employment of workers from outside the EEA, such as sportspeople, entertainers and workers on the Youth Mobility Scheme (YMS).

Who should apply?

Companies with a Sponsor's License can issue Certificates of Sponsorship for Tier 5 employees.

Basic requirements

To qualify as a Tier 5 worker, the individual must have the 40 points required.

•  30 points are allocated for having a valid Certificate of Sponsorship.

•  10 points are required for having available maintainence funds to support the individual during their time in the UK.

What information do I need to provide?

You will need to provide evidence of the applicant's sponsorship, and evidence to support that they meet all other points requirements.

How can Visas For Companies help me?

Visas For Companies have the knowledge and experience to help you gain and maintain your Sponsorship license, and can use their expertise to put together the strongest application for your prospective workers.

Common Questions

What kind of temporary work comes under this category?

Sportspeople and entertainers coming to the UK for a specific event(s)/competition, religious workers, charity workers and the Youth Mobility Scheme (YMS) all come under Tier 5.

How long is the visa valid for?

The maximum length of stay under a Tier 5 visa is 24 months. You will not be permitted to switch into a different visa category under the terms of this visa.

Can my employee bring dependents with them?

No. Tier 5 is designed for temporary workers, so dependents cannot be brought with them into the UK.

Does my employee need entry clearance?

Your employee will usually need to apply for entry clearance unless they are creative or sporting category non-visa nationals coming to the UK for less than 3 months. Entry clearance can still be preferable in these cases under certain circumstances.
